Taking the direct route

Having a vertical lift installed gives you the independence of getting up and down stairs in your own wheelchair - by going straight up through the ceiling.

Modern vertical lifts (or through-floor lifts) are cleverly designed to take up as little room as necessary. The Wessex vertical lift is a creamy-white shade that blends easily with most interiors. Its free-standing design does not require a load-bearing wall.

The Wessex has a range of special features that can be adapted for your own needs.

Features include:

  • Powered door option
  • Large-buttoned remote control option
  • Right or left door-opening and controls
  • Choice of 6 models
  • Internal telephone socket
  • Alarm with battery back-up
  • Safety sensors in case of obstructions
  • Emergency back-up system in event of power failure

Vertical lifts cost from £8,000 new (installed, exclusive of VAT*) and from £5,500 secondhand (installed, exclusive of VAT*). Installation can take between 3-4 days.

First, we organise for building work to be done in preparation – a builder, an electrician and, if necessary, a plumber, will attend together for about a day. As soon as possible after they have done their work, our engineers will arrive to fit the lift. This takes between one and a half and two days, depending on the circumstances. You will be given clear instructions on how to operate the lift, and a manual.

(* In many cases, the purchase of these products is exempt from VAT.)
